From WRGA: Parents of heart donor meet recipient for the first time

A local woman who received a heart transplant in 2012 met the donor’s family for the first time on Friday. Sara and Gary Spann were able to hear their son’s heart beating inside Yolanda Akins, a 43-year-old mother of four from Rome. The Spann’s son, Geoffrey, was hit by a car in November 2012 at the age of 23. He was taken to Floyd Medical Center and was pronounced dead the next day. Complete story from WRGA
