Business: Local job totals rise vs. December 2016 reports by 200 — but down from November. Statewide, 2017 was a banner year for employment.

  The Rome/Floyd labor market picked up 200 jobs in December vs. the same month in 2017, according to Georgia’s Department of Labor. Some 41,500 people worked here last month vs. 41.300 a year earlier. The area lost 200 jobs vs. November’s total of 41,700.   At 1 p.m. 34 degrees — the first time we’ve been above freezing since 5 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 16. That’s 41 consecutive hours of temperatures of 32 degrees or cooler. It got down to 13 degrees on Wednesday with a wind chill of minus 2. Not so good news for some: With temperatures finally… Read more
