The scenario:

  • Wednesday: With few reports of sleet, Floyd and Bartow counties mostly dodged any of the major effects from Wednesday’s winter storm. In all, Floyd saw around two tenths of an inch of rain while Bartow was at 0.12 of an inch. Temperatures held just above freezing most of the day — and overnight, which lessened chances of black ice forming on area roads. (Storm totals below)
  • Now through Saturday: We’re in for nearly two inches of rain starting later today. We could see up to 0.30 of an inch of snow between 1 and 4 a.m. Saturday but nothing like what Northeast Georgia will experience. A winter storm warning starts in Gilmer County and moves east, with a winter weather advisory in effect for other counties in the state’s northeast corner.

The forecast:

Thursday: Rain, mainly after 11am. High near 47. Calm wind becoming east around 5 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 90%.

Thursday Night: Rain. Low around 41. East wind 5 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New precipitation amounts between three quarters and one inch possible.

Friday: Rain. High near 46. East wind 5 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%.

Friday Night: Rain before 1am, then a chance of rain and snow. Low around 31. Southeast wind 5 to 10 mph becoming northwest after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%.

Saturday: Mostly cloudy, with a high near 40.

Saturday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 24.

Sunday: Sunny, with a high near 49.

Sunday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 29.
