Dining: El Tapatio closed near East Rome Walmart. J.R. Crickets opening today. M & J’s returning Feb. 1?

Signs posted late Friday on the door of the El Tapatio Mexican Restaurant state the restaurant is now “permanently” closed. It hasn’t even been a year since the restaurant opened last April in the Rome Village in front of the East Rome Walmart. More than $10,000 in renovations were made to the spot before it opened according to previous building reports. And get this, even though they are now closed, management is requesting your comments on what you thought about their restaurant. A drop box is taped to the door.

At last check on Friday afternoon, J.R. Crickets is slated to have their ‘soft opening’ today at 2:30 p.m. following by official opening. Work has been underway on Magretta Hall for the opening of the new restaurant for the last six months or more.

And could M & J Home Cooking finally be reopening by Feb. 1? New ownership says they are working to re-open the restaurant by the first of the month. Expect the same familiar menu, but possibly an increase in price from $7 to $8 for meal and drink.
