New Year’s Day: All government offices and financial institutions are closed. From City of Rome: Friday routes for garbage and recycling will be picked up on Thursday, with no yard cart service.

The Coosa River Basin Initiative will host a Burwell Creek floodplain paddle at 1 p.m. in Rome.The trip is free and open to the public. Complimentary canoes and kayaks are available for those without their own boats. “Always… Patsy Cline,” a Rome Little Theatre Black Box Benefit, returns to the Historic DeSoto Theatre stage for New Year’s. The black-box, dinner theater fundraiser will be held on January 1, 2 and 3, and people of all musical preferences will enjoy the true story of Patsy Cline and her fan-turned-friend Louise Serger, telling and singing the life story of one of America’s most legendary musical artists. The show stars Susanna Brown as Patsy Cline and Mandy Maloney as Lousie Serger. Proceeds from the performances go toward updating and maintaining the Rome Little Theatre’s production technology, including lighting and sound design technology. On Friday, Jan. 1 and Saturday, Jan. 2: dinner at 7 p.m. and show at 8 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 3 show at 2 p.m. with no dinner option.
