Latest development:
From Floyd County Emergency Management Director Tim Herrington: “According to the National Weather Service, we are predicted to get some more rain from the second storm starting sometime after 2 a.m. (Wednesday) Depending on the path of the storm, we may only get less than an inch of rainfall if it tracks to the south. If the storm tracks in a more northern path, then we can expect heavy periods of rain. Because of the amounts of rain we have experienced since Christmas Eve, additional flooding will occur very rapidly during this storm. The Army Corp of Engineers reported that Carter’s Dam has been releasing water into the Oostanaula River System and will increase its flow beginning this afternoon. We can expect to observe a sharp rise in our river levels as this additional water moves through our area. Please share this latest weather information with your readership and listening audiences to ensure they are kept informed of the current weather forecast for our area.”
