WRGA: Local child recovering at Atlanta hospital after hit by car during Friday’s icy conditions
From WRGA: A four-year-old child struck by a vehicle on Friday night is in good condition at Scottish Rite Children’s Hospital, hospital officials said.
Campbell Epting, her father, James Epting and her six-year old brother, were struck by a Chevrolet Tahoe on Friday night on Shorter Avenue near Sherwood Drive.
Campbell Epting is being treated at Scottish Rite Childrens Hospital, a spokeswoman said on Saturday.
The driver, identified as Regino Garcia Pu, 41, of Rome, was trying to avoid another wreck on Shorter Avenue during icy condition, according to PFC Corey Bowers of the Rome Police Department.
Garcia Pu was heading east and was attempting to change lanes when he hit a patch of ice, did a 180 degree turn and struck the family on the sidewalk.
The family was unconscious when emergency officials arrived, poice said, and were taken to Floyd Medical Center by ambulance.
Garcia Pu was charged with driving too fast for conditions.
