Track tonight’s road issues, weather updates using Floyd Emergency Management’s free new app
Talk about a baptism by fire. If you haven’t done so yet, now is the right time to download the free Floyd County Emergency Management app from Apple or Android.
The latest updates on local roads we’re posting from EMA are coming straight from the news/events folder on the app.
Here’s what you need to know (from our report earlier this month):
Floyd County’s Emergency Management Office has secured an app that contains just about everything you need to have at your fingertips in times of severe weather or other emergencies. Included: A weather radio, list of emergency shelters, preparedness kit advice, Code RED signup, power outage map, state resources such as GEMA and Ready GA and links to Floyd EMA’s Facebook and Twitter pages.
It is available from Apple’s App Store or from Google Play. It takes under a minute to load.
Here’s the updated media release on the app:
The Floyd County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) announces the release of a new mobile app available for download free of charge from the app stores. The new app is an innovative approach to help Floyd County citizens, businesses, and visitors prepare for emergencies and be alerted to emergency situations.
Users who download the apps onto their smartphones can see the local weather forecast, radar, and alerts, as well as hear a live feed from the NOAA radio broadcast. Key features include EMA news on Facebook and Twitter, CodeRed alert registration, Emergency Preparedness Kits, Shelter information, Power outages, and Road closure information. All Emergency Alerts and messages are push notifications in the app.
App users are encouraged to share this information with family, friends, and neighbors to help ensure that all citizens of Floyd County are informed and prepared for any emergency.
“This is a great tool to aid us in getting out pertinent information in a timely manner to a vast amount of people that could be affected by potential emergencies”, said Tim Herrington, Director of the Floyd County Emergency Management Agency (EMA). “With nearly 200 million people using smartphone technology in today’s society, mobile apps really offer organizations a better way to connect with the public wherever they’re located!”
The Floyd County Emergency Management app was created by MyEMAapp.com, a division of OCV, LLC which specializes in mobile app development for public safety and emergency preparedness.
Download the Floyd County GA EMA mobile apps onto your smartphone or tablet. They are available free of charge from the iPhone and Google Play (Android) app stores.
