Smile Report: West End wins sixth-grade math competition at Berry; Unity’s Clay Crawford takes individual honors
Media release: The Spring 2015 Sixth Grade Berry College Mathematics Contest was held on campus Thursday, Feb. 12. Twelve sixth-grade teams competed. The top three teams were: First, West End Elementary School (Rome); second, Armuchee Middle School (Floyd County), and third, Gilmer Middle School.
Top individual student winners were: Clay Crawford from Unity Christian School, first; Hayley Sanders from West End Elementary School, second; and Jace Clowdus from West End Elementary School, third.
Participating schools included: Armuchee Middle School (Floyd County), Coosa Middle School (Floyd County), Gilmer Middle School (Gilmer County), Heritage Middle School (Catoosa County), Jasper Middle School (Pickens County), LaFayette Middle School (Walker County), Pickens County Middle School (Pickens County), Red Bud Elementary School (Gordon County), Saddle Ridge Elementary & Middle School (Walker County), Trion Middle School (Chattooga County), Unity Christian School (Rome) and West End Elementary School (Rome).
Berry College hosts the competition to promote and encourage mathematical excellence. Several Berry students and mathematics faculty worked with the event. Dr. Martha Tapia, Associate Professor of Mathematics Education, is the faculty supervisor for the event.
