Six people met the noon Thursday deadline to apply for the open Coosa District seat on the Floyd County Board of Education. It might be another day before those names are public, however.
Board spokesman Tim Hensley says some preliminary checks must be done to ensure the applicants all live in the Coosa district. Also, board representatives are calling each applicant to ensure he or she knows their names will be made public. Once all the background work is done today and probably early Friday, the six names will be made public.
What happens next, per a Floyd media release:

“The (school) board will involve an administrator and a parent from the Coosa community’s Local School Governance Teams to review the applications and work with the board to select finalists for the board seat. A school administrator serving on a Coosa area school LSGT, along with a parent serving on one of the Coosa area LSGT groups, will participate in the process to select finalists to be interviewed for the open seat on the board.

“The board will interview the selected finalists to fill the vacancy the last week of January. The board will vote to select the individual to be appointed to fulfill the term of Brian Barcomb at the board’s scheduled meeting on Tuesday, February 3. The selected individual could then begin service on the board by the March Board of Education meeting to be held on Tuesday, March 3 at 6 p.m.”
