Rev. Harvey Jerome Bowman, Jan. 17, 1931-March 13, 2015
The Rev. Harvey Jerome Bowman, age 84, of Silver Creek, passed away on Friday, March 13, 2015, in a local medical center.
He was born in Floyd County on January 17, 1931, son of the late Dennis Monroe Bowman and the late Gertrude Ophelia Brown Bowman. He attended Pepperell High School and was a veteran of the Korean War, having served with the United States Navy. He was a truck driver for Carolina Freight Company with over 30 years of service and was a member of the Teamster’s Union. He was an Ordained Baptist Minister and had served as Pastor of Reynolds Chapel Baptist Church where he is a member. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a daughter, Juanita Diane Bowman, by sisters, Melvie Ruth Knott and Evelyn Justice, and by brothers, Harold Bowman and Donald Bowman.
Survivors include his wife, the former Barbara Juanita Studdard, to whom he was married on June 9, 1952; a daughter, Lisa Bowman, Lindale; 2 grandchildren, Todd Williams, and his wife, Nicole, Silver Creek and April Drew, and her husband, Kevin, Rome; 4 great-grandchildren; a brother, Billy Bowman, and his wife, Ruth, Lindale; several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 16, 2015, at 2pm in the Chapel at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel. The Rev. Rayford Davenport and the Rev. Bradford Thomas will officiate with his grandson, Todd Williams, delivering the eulogy. Interment will follow in the Floyd Memory Gardens with the American Legion Post #5 Honor Guard presenting full military honors.
The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel on Sunday, from 3 until 5pm. At other hours, they may be contacted at the residence.
Pallbearers serving are asked to assemble at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, on Monday at 1:30pm and include: Kevin Drew, Todd Williams, Kevante Drew, Nick Bowman, Mike Williams, and Kobie Drew.
Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, has charge of the funeral arrangements.
