Dr. Mary Magdalene Dempsey Corbin, January 3, 1936-March 11, 2015
Dr. Mary Magdalene Dempsey Corbin, age 79, of Rome, passed away Wednesday, March 11, 2015, in a local health care facility.
Dr. Corbin was born in Lindale, GA on January 3, 1936, daughter of the late Sye Daniel Dempsey and the late R. C. Allred Dempsey. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Orville Webster Corbin on August 4, 1990, and by 7 siblings. Dr. Corbin was a 1954 Honor Graduate of Pepperell High School in Lindale. She graduated from Coosa Valley Technical College with a degree in Secretarial Science. Prior to her retirement, she was employed for several years with General Electric here in Rome, following employment at West Point Pepperell Manufacturing Co. and Trend Mills. In 2001, she graduated from Covington Theological Seminary with a Doctor of Ministry in Bible degree. Dr. Corbin was a volunteer with Redmond Regional Medical Center’s Camp Bluebird, served as a “Pink Lady” at Floyd Medical Center, was a member of the G. E. Retirees, and was a Georgia Power Ambassador. She enjoyed music, reading the Bible, and traveling over six continents. She especially enjoyed her trip to the Holy Land and the boat ride across the Sea of Galilee. She also supported numerous children through ministries across the world. Dr. Corbin was a member of East Rome Baptist Church.
Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Shirley Dempsey Colquitt, Roswell; a brother, Herbert Eugene “Buck” Dempsey, and his wife, Claudette, Rome; nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 14, 2015, at 1pm in the Chapel at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, with the Rev. Steven Swift officiating. Interment will follow in Floyd Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, on Saturday from 11am until the service hour. At other times, they may be contacted at their respective residences.
Pallbearers are requested to assemble at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, on Saturday at 12:30pm and include: Greg Pledger, Joey Milton, Shannon Stepps, Darrel Scoggins, Van Padgett, Robert Atkinson, Rex Campbell, Alton Dudley, and Clyde Knowles.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the church or charity of your choice.
Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, has charge of the funeral arrangements.

Virgil Woodrow Haney, age 93, of Rome, passed away on Wednesday, March 11, 2015, at his residence. Services Friday.
Frances Odom Johnson, 94, of Rome, passed away early Tuesday, March 10, 2015, at the residence of her daughter. Services Saturday.
