Carolyn Camp Doss, January 6, 1927-March 10, 2015

Carolyn Camp Doss, age 88, of Rome GA, passed away peacefully Tuesday at a local hospital following a lengthy battle with congestive heart failure.

DossShe was born in Rome, Georgia on January 6, 1927, one of three daughters of the late Fred E. Camp and the late Maynor Ware Camp. She was preceded in death by a sister, Maynor Ware Grant and a great-grandson, Jon Harrison Butler.

She graduated from Rome Girl’s High and then from West Georgia College where she met and married the love of her life and husband of 67 years, Sam W. Doss, Jr. After a brief career as a legal secretary, she was a loving mother, a dedicated wife, a faithful Christian, and a caring community servant. She spent her entire life caring for others, always sacrificing for her family and living her life as an example of Christian love for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren to follow. She was forever offering food, clothing and assistance to those in need, and a warm pound cake and a comforting word for those with a heavy heart. She was a Founding Member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church where she served as a Deacon and an Elder and was an active member until her failing health confined her to home. Undoubtedly, her greatest love was her husband Sam, who sat by her side, holding her hand and offering her comfort during her final days and hours. She will be greatly missed and remembered for her compassionate heart, her strong spirit, her unconditional love and her sweet and amazing grace.

Her funeral service will be held Friday, March 13, 2015 at 11:00 am at Westminster Presbyterian Church with the Dr. Greg Lund and Dr. Joel Snider officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 10:00 am until the hour of the service.

She is survived by her husband, Sam W. Doss, Jr., a sister, Janice Camp McCleskey of Leesburg, Alabama, a daughter Freda Rountree (Mike) of Eatonton, a son David Doss (Janice) of Rome, 5 grandchildren, and 6 great-grand-children. Pallbearers are Chris Adams of Madison, Georgia, Blake Adams of Nunez, Georgia, Collin Doss of Rome, Georgia, Jon Butler of Eastman, Georgia, David Raynor of Atlanta, Georgia and Barry McCleskey of Birmingham, Alabama. Honorary Pallbearers will be her 4 great-grandsons, Carson Adams, Barrett Adams, Jake Adams and Hamilton Butler.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the church building fund of Westminster Presbyterian church 1941 Shorter Ave. Rome, GA. 30165 Church. A private interment in the Oaknoll Memorial Gardens will follow the service.

Daniel’s Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements.
