Authorities are continuing to investigate what appears to have been a domestic disturbance that escalated into a murder/suicide on Monday. News of the shootings and subsequent investigation led to the lockdown of two nearby schools.

The call came in as a shooting at Winchester Drive in the Hunters Landing subdivision

Bartow County’s Emergency Medical Service was called to the scene and reported treated a female patient who “had numerous wounds.” EMS crews “began advanced life support measures” and moved her to the hospital where she died. The man suspected of shooting her later was found dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The crime scene was close to Euharlee Elementary and Woodland Middle schools just off Chulio (Euharlee Road) so both schools were placed on code yellow, described by the Bartow County Board of Education as to mean that “all the exterior doors were locked and all outside activity was suspended, due to a criminal incident nearby. Extra campus police officers were on campus as well. ”

A Life Flight helicopter was brought in and landed by Woodland Middle just before it was determined the suspected shooter had taken his own life.
