Media release: This year the Heart of Community Board has selected five agencies to receive money for their heart healthy projects. Agencies include the Rome and Floyd County YMCA, Summit Quest Adventures, the South Rome Boys and Girls Club, the Rome Floyd County Parks and Recreation Program, and the South Rome Redevelopment Corporation.

  • YMCA funds will be used to provide swimming scholarships and to purchase exercise equipment.
  • Summit Quest Adventures funds will be used to purchase canoes, paddle boards, life jackets, climbing and safety gear.
  • The South Rome Boys and Girls Club will use their donation to implement and operate the “Teach Me Tennis” program.
  • The Rome Floyd County Parks and Recreation Program will use their funds to rent vans for Senior Adults Day Trips.
  • South Rome Redevelopment Corporation’s funds will assist South Rome Early Learning Center School of Education at Berry College and at Anna Kay Davie Elementary School to provide health and fitness needs and initiatives in the south Rome area.

The Heart of the Community Foundation works to improve health and promote education in the Rome and Floyd community. It has provided the community with the Heart House at Redmond Regional Medical Center, the Serenity Garden at Redmond Regional Medical Center, the purchase of fitness equipment for the North Floyd Recreation Center, creation of thePar Course Fitness Center at Ridge Ferry Park and has distributed Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) throughout the community.
