Health briefs: ‘Cartersville has Heart’ run/walk Saturday. ‘Advo 101′ is Friday. ‘Tools for Independence’ set for March 19
Saturday: Cartersville Medical Center, along with Georgia Bone & Joint Surgeons, Harbin Clinic and Georgia Highlands College, will host the second annual “Cartersville Has Heart 5k” at Georgia Highlands College Student Center. The event is designed to promote fitness and increase overall awareness of the signs and symptoms of heart disease, while supporting the local non-profit organization, Good Neighbor Homeless Shelter. The 5k Run/Walk, officially timed by the Chattanooga Track Club will begin at 9 a.m. (with race day registration beginning at 7:30 a.m.). Awards will be presented at approximately 10 a.m. “Bolt”, the Georgia Highlands College Charger mascot and the Chick-Fil-A cow will be present, along with Bartow EMS. Trainers from Georgia Bone & Joint Surgeons will provide a first-aid tent and a pre-race warmup with stretching exercises and Harbin Clinic will provide bag check services. Discounted online registration at Active.com is available until noon Friday. You also may search “Cartersville Has Heart 5k” online for the registration link. While online registration is encouraged, race day registration will be available from 7:30 – 8:30 a.m. Race Packets (filled with cool promotional items and valuable coupons) and T-shirts will be available for early pickup on Friday from 4-6 p.m. at Cartersville Medical Center for those who have registered online only. Race day registrations will receive packets and T-shirts upon registration Saturday morning at 7:30 a.m.
Friday: Join Advocates for Children at Flowering Branch Children’s Shelter at 8 a.m. for a special edition Advo-101. Enjoy a complimentary Chick-fil-A breakfast as we talk about the many programs and services that Advocates for Children provides to the community at no cost. For the first time ever, we will also be showing ReMoved, a short film about a 10-year-old girl that follows the highs and lows of her journey through the foster care system.
