The heroes of Rome and Floyd County are coming together to sponsor a community wide blood drive on Monday, June 26 at the Law Enforcement Center, 5 Government Plaza. You can show your support for the men and woman of these eight organizations: Rome Police Department, Floyd County Police Department, Rome/Floyd County Fire Department, Floyd County Sheriff’s Office, Floyd Medical Center EMS, Redmond EMS, Floyd County Corrections, Department of Community Supervision. They put their lives on the line each and everyday for our community. Floyd County Board of Education, called meeting, today at 10 a.m. The board will go into a closed meeting to discuss personnel. The meeting will be held in the office of superintendent Dr. John Jackson.

Lumsden named chair of House Human Relations and Aging Committee: Speaker David Ralston (R-Blue Ridge) announced today that he has appointed Rep. Eddie Lumsden (R-Armuchee) as Chairman of the House Human Relations & Aging Committee. The House Human Relations & Aging Committee is responsible for legislation that concerns the care and needs of Georgia’s aging population. Lumsden represents the citizens of District 12, which includes portions of Chattooga and Floyd counties. He was elected into the House of Representatives in 2012.

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Northwest Georgia is seeking volunteer cheerleading coaches.
Coaches needed for these schools:

  • Anna Kay Davie: Junior PeeWee & PeeWee
  • East Central: all ages
  • Elm/West Central: all ages
  • Johnson: PeeWee
  • Main/North Heights: all ages
  • Pepperell: Junior PeeWee (white team/gold team)
  • West End: Junior PeeWee
