Some 658 high school students from across the state will arrive today on the campus of Berry College for the 2017 session of the Governor’s Honors Program. The Governor’s Honors Program is a four-week, summer residential program for gifted and talented high school students in the state of Georgia. Students who participate in GHP attend classes in a wide variety of fields, including communicative arts, engineering, mathematics, science, including agricultural science, social studies, world languages, visual arts, and the performing arts (e.g. music, dance, theatre). Four Rome Braves’ players are headed to Tuesday’s annual SAL All-Star Game at Spirit Communications Park in Columbia, SC. Representing the Rome Braves will be pitcher Bryse Wilson, catcher Brett Cumberland, and outfielders Randy Ventura and Cristian Pache. The 58th Annual South Atlantic League All-Star Game at Spirit Communications Park on June 20th is scheduled to begin at 7:05 p.m. Game details
Keep an eye on Wednesday’s Historic Preservation Commission meeting set for 2:30 p.m. in the Carnegie Training Room. Among the items up for consideration are plans by Wayne Robinson to continue renovation of 247 Broad St., the former Gingers. Also in the downtown neighborhoods: 13 E. Third Ave.: “The applicant is proposing a change to the storefront of 13 E. Third Ave. to an exact match to the storefront of 17 E. Third Ave.” (This is the building that is home to Bella Luna and other retailers with apartments upstairs; just up from the site of The Lofts at Third and Broad project). And perhaps the item we’ll hear the most about: “Consideration of Alteration of the Between the Rivers District for the following properties.” They include 603 W. First St., 104 W. Sixth Ave., 106 W. Busy Friday night ahead: The second annual ‘Rome for the Rescues’ party at Lawrence Plantation. Online ticket sales for the party are available now through June 19 by clicking here.
