March 16 & 17: Blood Assurance will be hosting a St. Patrick’s Day blood drive its donor center facility at the Midtown Crossing shopping center in Rome. All participating donors will receive a customized St. Patrick’s Day t-shirt and will be entered into a drawing to win a $50 Walmart gift card, as well as a gift card from Provino’s Italian Restaurant. With numerous blood drives and donor appointments cancelled due to last month’s weather conditions, there has been a dramatic drop in blood donations. The community is experiencing an urgent need for O- and O+ blood donors. Blood Assurance invites all “lucky” donors to consider making a donation that will save three lives across the region. To be eligible to donate blood, you must be at least 17 years old (16 years old with parental consent), weigh 110 pounds or more and be in good health. Donors are asked to drink plenty of fluids - avoiding caffeine - and eat a meal that is rich in iron prior to donating. For questions about donating blood, please call (423) 756-0966. March 19: Tickets are still available for the Berry College Gloria Shatto Lecture Series featuring presidential historian and Pulitzer prize-winning author Doris Kearns Goodwin. The lecture will begin at 8 p.m. in the Steven J. Cage Athletic and Recreation Center. It is free and open to the public, but tickets are required for admission. March 19: U.S. Rep. Tom Graves will present the 2015 Congressional Youth Art competition winners during a reception at 6 p.m. the Rockmart Cultural Arts Center, 316 N. Piedmont Ave., Bldg. 300. Refreshments will be served and admission is free. There were 68 entries from the 14th District of Georgia. Rep. Graves will announce the winners of the competition with first, second, third and honorable mentions awarded. The first prize work of art will represent the 14th Congressional District in an exhibition in Washington, D.C. for one year.

March 22: The Rome Symphony Orchestra will perform their annual spring concert at the Berry College Ford Auditorium at 3 p.m. RSO conductor and music director Richard Prior will lead the orchestra as they prent an afternoon of beautiful music to include performances of Purcell’s “Trumpet Voluntary”, Handel’s “Music for the Royal Fireworks”, and “Watermusic”. A violin, piano and cello trio will also perform “Two Tangos for Piano Trio” by Piazzolla. Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for seniors and $2 for students if purchased in advance. Tickets may be purchased online at www.romesymphony.org or around town at the Rome Visitors Center, Kroger, Merry Bee Galleries, Living & Giving, Riverside Gourmet and Bussey’s of Cedartown. Tickets purchased at the door on the day of the concert are $20 for adults, $15 for seniors and $5 for students. This concert qualifies for the concert subscription series ticket option.
