Judge Jack Neidrach: New Mental Health Court to start next week with goal of keeping mentally ill out of jail.

Floyd County Superior Court Judge Jack Neidrach outlined Floyd County’s brand new Mental Health Court to the members of the Exchange Club of Rome on Friday. In the above video from Exchangite Buzz Wachsteter, Neidrach says the main goals of the court are “to keep the mentally ill out of jails and prison, improve public safety and get the mentally ill the treatment and resources they need.”

According to Wachsteter, the new court should begin next week and initially accept five individuals sentenced to a comprehensive mental health rehabilitation program and grow to 20 by the end of the year.

Neidrack says the new court is being funded with a $114,000 grant that is taking money used for incarceration and spending it on supervision and treatment since the current traditional sentencing is “not doing a good job.”
