HIGH SCHOOL

  • Rome High Girls Basketball beat #7 Sequoyah, 64-51.
  • Rome boys lose 76-57 to Sequoyah. Rome plays Creekview today. Varsity Girls at 1:30 p.m., Varsity Boys 3 p.m.
  • Cartersville boys basketball defeated Heritage 74-61 to on the road to tie Heritage for 1st in the region.
  • Dalton girls basketball beat Cass, 54-49.

  • Jordan Shaw picked up his 1th All-America laurel this week when Shorter University’s most-heralded football player was named this week a D2football.com First Team All-American for the second straight year. Shorter

HIGH SCHOOLS, COLLEGES

The Rome Braves announce the participants in the 2016 Rome Braves High School Invitational as well as two college games to be played at State Mutual Stadium. The High School invitational will be played on Friday March 4, and Saturday March 5. Friday will feature Armuchee High School versus Excel Christian Academy at 6 p.m. On Saturday, the tripleheader will begin with Model High School taking on Pepperell High School at 11 a.m.; Darlington School vs. Rome High School at 2:30 p.m. and the day will end with Coosa High School battling Cartersville High School at 6 p.m. Gates will open one hour prior to the first game time on both days.

  • Two local collegiate programs will be featured at State Mutual Stadium this spring as well. On Wednesday, March 23, the Shorter University Hawks will play the Lincoln Memorial University Railsplitters at 6 p.m. Then on Tuesday, April 26, the Georgia Highlands Chargers will take on the Gordon State Highlanders at 6 p.m.
  • Tickets for the Rome Braves High School Invitational and both collegiate games are now on sale at the State Mutual Stadium ticket office and online at www.romebraves.com. Tickets are general admission seating and are $5 each. Fans can purchase advance tickets through the respective high schools, Shorter Baseball, and Georgia Highlands Baseball knowing that a portion of the proceeds from each game will benefit the respective participating schools’ baseball programs.
