Over 60 models representing local boutiques, jewelry stores and salons will make up ‘An Evening on the Runway’, presented by Redmond Regional Medical Center as a benefit to the Historic DeSoto Theatre Foundation. The February 12th event aims to shine a bright light on the future of heart disease and heart health in Rome, while helping the continued restoration efforts of the theatre.

The first event of its kind in Rome, the catwalk will provide a platform for Rome boutiques to showcase their spring lines in a dynamic and entertaining environment. Fast-paced lights and music will accompany the models while a live feed of the show will be projected unto large on-stage screens. Many familiar faces will surprise and delight the audience. An Evening on the Runway will also provide Redmond Regional Medical Center with a platform to raise awareness for heart health for women, the leading cause of death in women in the United States.

“We started thinking about a Runway Show for the DeSoto about a year ago,” says Chris Jackson, president of the Historic DeSoto Theatre Foundation. “Because February is Heart Month, it was the perfect opportunity for Redmond to partner with us and our other sponsors and help create this wonderful extravaganza.”

Local photographer Kelly Moore used downtown Rome’s streets as the runway for a series of pictures used to promote the event, including some of Redmond’s employees in formal gowns and tuxedos wearing “red for heart.” David Parker of Parker FiberNet Inc. will light up the DeSoto interior with an elaborate lights and sound show, keeping the evening in motion. Both are joined as Platinum Sponsors by Lawrence Plantation at Horseleg Creek, and by Whistle Britches, a new downtown boutique, featuring men’s and women’s clothing. Snazzy Rags Boutique, also on Broad Street, is a Diamond Sponsor.

“The show will be divided into several segments, all designed to showcase our impressive local fashion boutiques,” said Jackson. “Just as we want folks to stay in Rome to catch a play or a concert at the DeSoto, we want folks to stay and shop in Rome. We know they can find a wide variety of name brands and of new and popular styles, without having to travel to Atlanta.”

Other boutiques featuring their spring fashions, plus additional sponsors, are: Gold Sponsors, Blue Sky Outfitter; Ford Gittings, & Kane Jewelers; Hardy Realty; Mel & Mimi; and Stella Blu Cosmetic Boutique; Silver Sponsors: B. Stevens Salon; Bella Luna; Greene’s Jewelers; Lodge 210 Menswear; Living & Giving; Seven Hills Salon; Top Hat; Brumlow, Corwin & Delashmit, P.C.; Evans Construction; Hawthorn Suites and JEM Manufacturers.

“Heart disease is the leading cause of death in women in the United States, killing one in every four women,” says Marsha Colwell, Vice President of Cardiovascular Services at Redmond.

Women experience “silent” or unrecognizable attacks more often than men, so it is critical that they know their personal risk of heart disease and focus on prevention. “Start now with knowing,” says Colwell. “Your heart will thank you.”

An Evening on the Runway will begin at 7:30 p.m. February 12. The VIP Patron Party at Seven Hills Fellowship is from 6-7:30 p.m. Tickets are $17 (General Admission), $27 (Reserved Seating), and an additional $50 for the VIP Patron Party.

General Admission tickets are available for sale at the Redmond Business Office (main lobby). All tickets may be purchased online at ww.historicdesototheatre.org. For more information please contact Event Chair Rozanne Collins at (770)773-0527.

All proceeds benefit the Historic DeSoto Theatre for the continued restoration and preservation of ‘The Jewel of Broad Street.” Established in 2008, the Historic DeSoto Theatre Foundation has overseen improvements in the building such as the renovation of the theatre’s entry vestibule and façade, new lounges and marble bathrooms, a renovated auditorium with new carpet and historically-accurate seating, as well as a new concessions area. Additional capital improvements planned include electrical modernization, improved sound, renovation of the stage area and enhanced safety systems as well as the day to day care and maintenance that a historic building deserves.
