Business: From doughnuts to outdoors gear, some slight — and not so slight — delays for major local projects. On time: The tennis center.
A quick check of some of the ongoing projects or those scheduled to begin across Northwest Georgia.
Krispy Kreme at 1602 Turner McCall Blvd., Rome: Exterior signage is up and the inside lane of Turner McCall was closed for almost a block Thursday as entrance and exit cuts were prepared for the 2,200-square-foot shop. Originally scheduled to open a month ago today, we continue to seek a new opening estimate from the company headquarters. Our guess: Under a month.
Hampton Inn & Suites at Turner McCall (875 W. First St.), Rome: “We are getting close but no set date as of yet. We are pushing contractors every day and progress is being made.” The 92-room hotel was due Jan. 11.
Bass Pro at LakePoint, Emerson: The 100,000-square-foot store is one of the anchor developments at LakePoint. “We are currently in development planning with this project and a specific time frame has not been finalized. We will share more details as plans progress,” says Katie Mitchell of Bass Pro Shops. The project was announced more than five years ago.
Bass Pro at East Ridge (Chattanooga): The slightly smaller outpost store looks close to opening. “The date is not set in stone at this time,” says Mitchell.
Courtyard by Marriott, West Third Street: Work on the much-delayed hotel should resume Feb. 15 — at least that’s the deadline if the developers hope to take advance of tax allocation district incentives. Duke Hospitality has said it will close on the loan with Synovus (Citizens First) on Feb. 10. The TAD funding requires a Feb. 15 resumption of “real” construction or that deal is off the table.
Cartersville roads: Multiple road construction projects continues in and around Cartersville. Among the largest: Upgrades to and around the Ga. 20 spur connecting Tennessee Street and the 41 interchange to I-75. The photo below shows some of the improvements now open to motorists.
And coming in on time, based on latest reports: Rome Tennis Center at Berry College. These aerial photos from earlier this month (click here for more) show how quickly the tennis center is coming together off Armuchee Connector. Due date: June. Why we like this photo: It clearly shows the proximity of the tennis center to Mount Berry Square.
