Mr. William “Dwight” Payne, age 61, of Lake City, FL, formerly of Rome, went to be with his Heavenly Father on Wednesday, January 20, 2016, after a short illness, in a Lake City area hospice center. Dwight was born in Rome, Georgia on August 19, 1954, son of Betty Ralston Payne and the late William H. Payne. He was also preceded in death by his grandparents. At the time of his death, Dwight was teaching Criminal Justice and Bible at Florida Gateway College in Lake City. He was formerly a police officer with the Rome Police Department, an attorney-at-law, Director of Northwest Georgia Police Academy, Major with the Cave Spring Police Department, NAMB missionary, instructor at Berry College, Floyd Junior College, and Georgia Northwestern Technical College. He was certified as a firearm instructor by the State of Georgia and the FBI. Dwight was a graduate of Model High School, Jacksonville State University, Mercer University School of Law, and Liberty Theological Seminary of Liberty University. He was also a member of MENSA. Survivors include his wife of 22 years, Janice Bragg Payne; sons, Matthew Payne, Rome, and Patrick Collum, Nashville, TN; granddaughters, Harper Elizabeth Collum and Elliot Rose Collum, Nashville; his mother, Betty R. Payne, Rome; a sister, Charlene Hendrix, Cartersville; a brother, Rodney Payne, Euharlee; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, January 24, 2016, at 3pm in the Chapel at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, with Dr. Bill Landers officiating and Ryan Ralston opening with prayer. The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, on Sunday from 12 noon until 2:45pm with the Rome Police Department Honor Guard presenting honors. At other hours, they will be at their respective residences. Pallbearers are asked to assemble at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel , on Sunday at 2:30pm and include: Active: Lester Bragg, Donald Bragg, Charles Bragg, Reed Biggers, Randy Green and Greg Shell. Honorary: David Cox, Kenneth Cox, Evan Roden, and Ansley Roden. Dwight truly had a heart for missions. He spent much of his later years involved in mission work around the world. Mrs. Betty Duke Lumpkin, age 73, of Armuchee, Georgia passed away on Thursday afternoon, January 21, 2016. Mrs. Duke was born on November 8, 1942, the daughter of the late Berry A. Duke and the late Evelyn Touchstone Duke. Mrs. Lumpkin was a member of the Floyd Springs Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Dr. Pat McGivaren Sunday School Class. She was employed for many years at Southern Wholesale later employed for Floyd County Schools. Mrs. Lumpkin was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Kenny Beard and by a sister, Shirley Jean Ross. Mrs. Lumpkin is survived by her husband, Andrew Jackson “Jack” Lumpkin; a daughter, Jackie Beard and (fiancé, Marion) of Lindale; a grandson, Jaxson Beard; 2 brothers, Bill (Marlene) Duke and Henry (Sandy) Duke; Special friends, Linda and George Vinzart. Nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services for Mrs. Betty Duke Lumpkin will be held on Sunday afternoon, January 24, 2016 at 2:30 pm at Floyd Springs Baptist Church with the Pastor Dan Hyde and Dr. Pat McGivaren officiating. Interment will follow in the Floyd Springs Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be on Sunday from 1:30 until 2:30 pm at the Floyd Springs Baptist Church. At other hours the family will be at the home of the daughter, Jackie Beard, Lindale, Georgia.

Mrs. Donna Page, age 83, of Donley Drive, Rome passed away on Wednesday evening, January 20, 2016 at her residence following a battle with cancer.
Mrs. Page was born in Columbus, GA on November 30, 1932, daughter of the late Albert Carlton Lee and Irene Lee Land. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Raymond Page and sister Mollie Bryan. She was a member of the Joy Sunday School Class at Lakeview Baptist Church. Survivors include her son Jack Page and wife Cynthia of Lantana, FL; daughter Jan Quinn and husband JB of Rome; two granddaughters, Cameron Gruetzner and husband Wilson of Greenville, TX and Stephanie Davis and husband Shaun of Rome; two step grandsons, Chad and Lance Quinn of Rome and nine great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Sunday, January 24, 2016 at 3 p.m. at Good Shepherd Funeral Home with the Reverends Jason Willis and Calvin “Skidder” Chatham officiating. Burial will follow at Oaknoll Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Good Shepherd.

Mrs. Regina Louise Hilliard Phillips, age 50, of Lyerly, passed away on Wednesday, January 20, 2016. Mrs. Phillips was born in Floyd County on May 26, 1965, daughter of the former Gwynne Cline and Robert Lamar Hilliard. She was a graduate of Cave Spring High School where she was a member of the basketball team and was involved in 4-H. She attended Coosa Valley Technical College, then graduated from Shorter College, where she served as a manager for the basketball team. She was previously employed with Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga. Mrs. Phillips was a member of Rehoboth Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband, Cory Phillips, Lyerly; 3 children, Meghin Grace McCary, Cave Spring, J. J. McCary, Summerville, and Bailey Bryson, Lyerly; her parents, Robert L. (Bob) and Gwynne Hilliard, Cave Spring; a brother, Chris Hilliard, and his wife, Zegee, Cave Spring; her best friend in life, Lynn Tucker Smith, Coosa; nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, January 24, 2016, at 4pm at Rehoboth Baptist Church with Dr. David McKenzie and the Rev. John Fleming officiating. Interment will follow in Rehoboth Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, on Saturday evening from 5 until 7pm. At other hours, they may be contacted at their respective homes.

Larry Wayne Wright age 57, of Rome passed away Wednesday January 20, 2016 at his residence. Larry was born April 8, 1958, in Floyd County, a son of Johnny Wright, and the late Annie Ruth Wright. He was a member of New Armuchee Baptist Church, a 1976 graduate of Model High School. Larry was a avid Falcons, Braves, and Georgia Bulldog Fan. He was preceded in death by his mother, Annie Ruth McCullough Wright, grandson, Bryson Logan, brother, John Arthur Wright. Survivors include his wife, Robin Trapp Wright, daughters, Brooke (Jeremy) Logan, Calhoun; Brandi Wright, Rome; father, Johnny Wright, Rome; brother, Chris (Jane) Wright, Rome; grandchildren, Braylin Logan, and Brylee Logan, several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be held 3:00 P.M. Saturday January 23, 2016 at New Armchee Baptist Church, with Rev. David Howard, officiating. Interment will follow Oaknoll Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 1:00 P.M. until the hour of the service on Saturday, at New Armuchee Baptist Church. Good Shepherd Funeral Home.
