Gordon County Sheriff Mitch Ralston reports that at approximately 5:30 p.m. Friday, deputy sheriffs and other county public safety personnel responded to the report of an older man, believed to be suffering from dementia, who’d wandered away from his residence in the Dews Pond community during the onset of the winter storm. Deputies scoured the area for two hours. Uniformed deputies finally located the 74-year-old man, who’d made his way to Calhoun, at 7:30 p.m. in a doughnut shop near Interstate 75. The man was attempting to hitch hike out of town. After being examined by emergency medical personnel, deputies transported the man back to his home.
