Mrs. Bettie Jean Nelson, age 71, of Silver Creek, passed away on Wednesday, January 20, 2016, at a local healthcare facility.
Mrs. Nelson was born in Esom Hill, Georgia on February 21, 1944, daughter of the late J. T. Rogers and the late Gracie Donaldson Rogers. She was also preceded in death by a son, Johnny Ray Nelson. Mrs. Nelson was a faithful member of the Cedar Lake Christian Center for over 30 years and was instrumental in bringing Praise & Worship Dancing to the church. She was a member of the Hope Dance Conservatory. Prior to retirement, she worked as a tax assessor. Mrs. Nelson had a great love for children that led her and her husband to foster over 50 children.
Survivors include her husband, Johnny Nelson, to whom she was married on December 3, 1988; two daughters, Robin Winkles, Cedartown, and Denise Arthur, Centre, AL; three sons, Marvin Duncan, Cedartown, Gary Nelson, Centre, AL, and Chris Nelson, Centre, AL; nine grandchildren; five gre at grandchildren; a brother, Lloyd Rogers, Carrollton; a sister, JoAnn Phillips, Cedartown; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 25, 2016, at 2pm at the Cedar Lake Christian Center in Cedartown with Pastor Neil Hopper and Prophet Roger Hutchins officiating. Interment will follow in Floyd Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, on Sunday from 3 until 5pm. At other hours, they will be at their respective residences.
Joan Lively Lancaster, age 83, of Rome passed away Tuesday, January 19, 2016 at Redmond Regional Hospital.
A native of Jersey City, NJ Mrs. Lancaster was born July 18, 1932, the daughter of the late William and Mary Ludwig McCarthy. She had been a resident of Rome since 1966 and prior to retirement, was a Registered Nurse at Redmond Regional Medical Center on the Cardiac Floor for 19 years. Mrs. Lancaster was a member of West Rome Baptist Church, enjoyed her friends at the Senior Citizens Center, played the dulcimer and piano with the Georgia Mountain Music Club for 16 years and enjoyed her trips with the Shorter Avenue Baptist Senior Group. Mrs. Lancaster was preceded in death by her first husband James Howard Lively Sr. November 6, 1993 and her second husband Jimmie Lancaster January 6, 2013, and by her sisters Agnes, Mary Margaret and Katherine (Sissy).
Survivors include her children Cynthia Lively Doan (husband Andrew Askinas) of Johns Creek, C.J. (Carol) Lively of Rome, Carl Lively (wife Brittany) of Rome, Jim Lively (wife Linda) of Easley, SC and John Lively (wife Wanda) of Rome. Sisters Jacqueline Jackson of Columbia SC and Frances Grace Buzzelli of Brick, NJ, eleven grandchildren and five great grand children also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:30 AM Saturday, January 23, 2016 in the Chapel of Good Shepherd Funeral Home, 2750 Shorter Avenue, with Reverend Ken Oates and Reverend Skip Myers officiating. Internment will follow in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens with her sons Carl, Jim, and John Lively, son in law Andrew Askinas, and grandsons Jackson Lively and Zachary Doan serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends Saturday from 10:30 until 11:30 at the funeral home. Luncheon will be served at The Well at West Rome Baptist Church for family and guests following the internment.
Mrs. Eugenia Frances Forsyth Pierce, age 91, of Lindale, passed away Thursday morning, January 21, 2016, in a local health care facility.
Mrs. Pierce was born in Bartow County on October 3, 1924, daughter of the late James Richard and Effie Leola Owens Forsyth. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Pierce, by 2 sisters, Margaret Virginia Smith and Madale Clines, and by 3 brothers, Willard, Ernie, and Owen Forsyth. Prior to her retirement, she was employed with Lindale Manufacturing Co. for many years. She was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include a son, Ronnie Pierce, Armuchee; a granddaughter, Samantha Pierce, Trion; sister-in-law, Nellie Forsyth Ballance; nieces and caregivers, Diane Cox and Hope Bagley, both of Aragon; other nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 23, 2016, at 12 noon at the graveside in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens. The Rev. Jarrod Roberts will officiate. The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, on Saturday from 10:30 until 11:30am.
Nephews will serve as pallbearers and are requested to assemble on Saturday at 11am.
