This is news we didn’t need. The National Weather Service is issuing a flood watch for Northwest Georgia and surrounding counties as a new storm churns out way. We’re still recovering from the last rough of high water over the Christmas holidays.
Rainfall:
- Rome, at 8 p.m., had just 0.06 of an inch of rain.
- Cartersville was at 0.30 of an inch.

FROM 3 A.M. FRIDAY THROUGH 7 A.M. SATURDAY
SOILS REMAIN EXCESSIVELY WET ACROSS NORTH GEORGIA WITH AVERAGE STREAMFLOWS OF CREEKS AND RIVERS ABOVE NORMAL.
WIDESPREAD RAIN, OCCASIONALLY HEAVY AT TIMES, WILL DEVELOP OVER THE WATCH AREA LATE TONIGHT AND CONTINUE TO FRIDAY EVENING.
STORM TOTAL RAINFALL AMOUNTS AROUND TWO INCHES CAN BE EXPECTED GENERALLY NORTH OF INTERSTATE 20 IN GEORGIA. THE RAIN WILL TRANSITION TO FREEZING RAIN…SLEET OR SNOW FRIDAY NIGHT AS COLD AIR BEGINS TO DOMINATE THE REGION.
FLOODING OF STREAMS…CREEKS AND SMALL RIVERS ARE POSSIBLE WITH THE EXPECTED RAINFALL. ALSO…TEMPORARY STREET FLOODING COULD OCCUR DUE TO POOR DRAINAGE AND CLOGGED STORM DRAINS WHERE ANY HEAVY RAIN OCCURS.
