Floyd County Board of Education to review superintendent candidates Friday, early Saturday
The Floyd County Board of Education will have two called board meetings this week — Friday, Jan. 22 at 4 p.m. and Saturday, Jan. 23, at 7:15 a.m. Both will be held at the central office.
The purpose of the meetings will be to go into “executive session” (closed meetings) to conduct superintendent interviews. Our office will officially close at 4:30 p.m. Friday and will not be open on Saturday. However, a representative from the Georgia School Board Association will be in the lobby.
Per state Opening Meetings laws, the school board can meet in a closed meeting to review personnel matters, real estate issues and legal matters. Also, the list of finalists for the superintendent’s post does not have to be made public until three or fewer finalists remain.
Board members are seeking a replacement for Jeff McDaniel who was relieved of his duties in late September following a 3-2 vote by the School Board. Dr. John Jackson continues to serve as interim superintendent.
