Obituaries: Remembering Loretta Ann Gallagher, Mrs. Catherine Lowery, Mrs. Mabel Reynolds Robinson, James Ruel Williams Jr.

James Ruel Williams Jr. age 88, of Rome, passed away at a local health care facility Wednesday January 13, 2016.

Mr. Williams was born in Dearborn, Michigan December 22, 1927. He was the son of the late James Ruel Williams Sr. and Lula Bae Poile Williams. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Josephine Williams to whom he was married for 64 years, a daughter, Nancy Eck; and two sisters, Marjorie Lippard and Jeane Sinkus.

He grew up in Miami, Fla., later attending the Georgia Military Academy in Milledgeville, GA which later became the Georgia Military College. He also attended the University of Miami. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. He was employed by the Army and Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES) and retired as Director of Merchandising for the European Exchange in 1974. He was an avid fisherman. He enjoyed hunting, and he traveled throughout the world. More than anything, he enjoyed spending time with his family and his grandchildren.

Survivors include two daughters, Jeanne Lee Sparks and her husband Billy of Rome; Susan Williams of Roswell; grandchildren, Maggie Sparks and Will Sparks of Rome, Michelle Barrett of Seattle, Washington, Jennifer Williams-Davis of Atlanta; nephew, John Lippard and niece, Cindy Lippard.

Funeral services for Mr. Williams will be held Saturday January 16, 2016 at 2:00 pm at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church with Rev. John Foster Herring officiating. The family will have a reception of friends following the service in Daniel Hall. A private entombment will be held at Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers the family respectfully requests memorial contributions to be made to St. Peter’s Episcopal Church 101 E. Fourth Ave., Rome, GA. 30161.

Mrs. Mabel Reynolds Robinson, age 90, of Silver Creek, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday morning, January 13, 2016.

Mrs. Robinson was born in Floyd County on June 4, 1925, daughter of the late Clarence and Ethel Russell Reynolds. She was also preceded in death by 4 sisters, Margaret Negahbani, Virginia Rousey, Sara Jane Riggins, and Elizabeth Terhune, and by 2 brothers, Louie and Harry Reynolds. A true southern lady, Mrs. Robinson was a loving wife and mother, dedicating her life to caring for her home and family. She was a member of Lindale United Methodist Church and was active in the Jamestown Circle. She was a former member of the Rosemont Garden Club.

Survivors include her husband of 73 years, Herman F. Robinson, to whom she was married on September 5, 1942; 2 daughters, Joyce Robinson Landrum, and her husband, Doug, Rome, and Kathryn Marie Robinson, Rome; 2 sons, Earl Robinson, and his wife, Donna, Lindale, and Wayne Rob inson, and his wife, Becky, Rome; a sister, Vesper Frazier, and her husband, Bob, Rome; 11 grandchildren, Steve Landrum, and his wife, Trish, Susan Earnest, and her husband, Ryan, Cindy Willis, and her husband, Adrian, Danny Robinson, and his wife, Jill, Kathy Pence, and her husband, Ken, Lisa Hackett, and her husband, Mike, Amy Land, and her husband, Randy, Allison Strickland, and her husband, Tim, Alli Robinson, Jessica Baker, and her husband, David, and Rebecca Clonts, and her husband, Michael; 21 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews also survive.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, January 16, 2016, at 1pm at Lindale United Methodist Church. Her Pastor, the Rev. Marc Dwiggins, the Rev. Pieter deBruijn, and Barry Henderson will officiate. Private interment will follow later in East View Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, on Friday from 3 until 6pm. At other hours, they may be contacted at their respective residences.

Mrs. Robinson’s grandsons and grandsons-in-law will serve as pallbearers. An honorary escort will include members of the Jamestown Circle.

Mrs. Catherine Lowery, 69, of Cave Spring, died Monday morning, January 11, 2016, in a Rome hospital following an extended illness.

The former Catherine Jane McAfee, Mrs. Lowery was born in Rome July 18, 1946, the daughter of the late Roy Henry McAfee and the late Shirley Johnson McAfee. A 1964 graduate of the Cave Spring High School, she was a lifelong member of the Cedar Creek Baptist Church. Prior to ill health, Mrs. Lowery was a route supervisor for Valley Vend Foods. Besides her parents, Mrs. Lowery was preceded in death by her brother, James Roy McAfee.

Survivors include her husband of 48 years, Bill Lowery, to whom she was married November 4, 1967, and by her son, Chad Lowery and his wife Beth of Morehead, Kentucky. Four grandsons, Michah Lowery, Dakota Lowery, Isaac Donehue, and Ethan Lowery, one granddaughter Brianna Lowery, and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

Funeral services for Mrs. Lowery were held Thursday, January 14, 2016, at 2 P.M. at the Cedar Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Chris Lodge officiating. Interment followed in the family lot of the Cave Spring Cemetery. Pallbearers included her grandsons, Michah Lowery, Dakota Lowery, Isaac Donehue, and Ethan Lowery, along with Kenyan Gillespie, Doyle Young, Dustin Young and James Wright. The family received friends at John House’s Cave Spring Chapel Funeral Home Wednesday evening, January 13, 2016, from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M.
