Obituaries: Remembering Eugene Talmadge Selman, Theresa L Komanitzky
Eugene Talmadge Selman, age 82, of Rome, GA passed away on Friday, January 8, 2016.
Mr. Selman was born on February 3, 1933, in Floyd County, GA. He was the son of the late Walter F. Selman and Opal Ray Mathis Selman. Mr. Selman was owner and operator of Selman Construction and member of North Broad Baptist Church for over 30 years where he served as a deacon.
He was on the board of directors for Habitat for Humanity. He enjoyed mission work, square dancing, gardening and he was an avid fan of the Georgia Bulldogs and ACC basketball. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 58 years, June Carnes Selman; and two sisters, Imogene Pledger and Barbara Hawkins.
He is survived by a daughter, Marie McArdle of Athens GA.; one son, Scott E. Selman of Athens GA.; one grandson David McArdle of Athens GA.; one brother Arthur Selman of Forne,y AL; his fiancée, Nancy Graham of Rome, GA, and her children , Melissa Graham, Kyle Ellard, Kimberly and Don Tucker; grandchildren, Skylar Rinehart, Haydn Rinehart, Brady Rinehart, Ainsley Rinehart, all of Arab, AL, and a number of nieces, and nephews.
Funeral services for Mr. Selman were conducted January 12, 2016, at 2 p.m. at North Broad Baptist Church with the Rev. Micah Pritchett officiating. Interment followed in the Floyd Memory Gardens.
The family received friends at the North Broad Baptist Church prior to his funeral. Pallbearer were his grandsons and nephews; honorary pallbearers were Mr. Selman’s Sunday school class Smith/Millsap and the Saturday Morning Coffee Crew.
Services are pending for Theresa L Komanitzky, 88, who died Jan. 12, 2016. Miller & Richards Oaknoll Chapel Funeral Home.
