ROME

Critical traffic note from WRGA for today: Norfolk Southern officials will be doing maintenance at the Second Avenue railroad crossing near Riverbend Drive in Rome on Tuesday. The will result in the closing of the crossing betweeen 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.You will need to find an alternate route if you travel this way.

Perhaps the first of many, Speakcheesy piloted serving brunch in the parking lot at Rome First UMC. It was a great success despite of the cold temperatures. Senior Pastor Robert Brown, added wit of his own, expressing a desire to see “Grilled Cheesus” show up on the menu. “We want to be better facilitators of our space,” says Evan McElreath, Director of Youth and Mission at Rome First. The collaboration stems from the church’s work to be better stewards of their resources. Rome First takes up a city block of prime downtown space, yet it is mostly used on Sundays. Therefore, the church wants to remind Romans that they can use the space to park and enjoy activities downtown throughout the week. The church has plans to continue offering space for the food trucks on Sundays and at events throughout the week and welcomes more food trucks to join for Sunday brunch.
