Cartersville Police updates from the case report on the Rite Aid robbery:
On Saturday Jan. 9, at 12:01 p.m., units of the Cartersville Police Department were dispatched to the business of Rite Aid located at 954 Joe Frank Harris Parkway in reference to and armed robbery that had just occurred. While en route to the incident location, a look out was given of the suspect. The suspect was described as a white male, sunglasses, wearing a green long sleeved shirt, tan shorts and flip flops. The suspect was located by officers sitting on the curb in front of Wellstar Cartersville Surgical located at 139 E Felton Road. Other officers arrived and the subject, later identified as Mr. Jaimey Swafford, was threatening to stab himself in the throat. A brief standoff occurred before the suspect surrendered and was taken into custody. The suspect was transported to Cartersville Medical for treatment of several small lacerations on his throat that he had self-inflicted. GBI Ordinance Disposal was called to check for the alleged bomb that was in the black duffel bag which was still in front of 139 E Felton Road. The GBI arrived and determined that there was no bomb, but it did contain the stolen narcotics. The bag and narcotics were placed in evidence. Expanded report
A Canton man faces nine counts following an attempted robbery of the Rite Aid store at 954 Joe Frank Harris Parkway on Saturday afternoon.
According to Bartow County Jail reports, Jamey Shane Swafford, 38, of 311 Westminster, is charged with possession of a hoax device, obstruction of an officer, two counts of terrorist threats and acts, and four counts of aggravated assault. He is being held at the county jail without bond.

4:05 p.m. update: Suspect in robbery has been identified as Jaimey Shane Swafford, 38-year-old male from Canton, GA.
3:30 p.m. update: Scene is all clear.
2:50 p.m. update: At this time, the suspect is in custody. A bag that may belong to the suspect is being cleared for any potentially hazardous materials. Once area is cleared we will update.
2:30 p.m. update: In connection with the attempted robbery an investigation is going on into a suspicious package. Further investigation is necessary and we will update when possible. Also developing information is that the Rite Aid at 954 Joe Frank Harris was the initial store for the attempted robbery.
From Cartersville Police: There was an attempted robbery on 41; officers have blocked off the area of Felton Road at Tennessee Street to locate the suspect. more information further as it evolves. (as of 12:45 p.m. Saturday)
