What’s ahead across Northwest Georgia: key ground breaking, pre-K registration
#hometownregion
Here’s what is going across Northwest Georgia:
FLOYD COUNTY
From WRGA: City and county leaders, law enforcement and representatives from various animal rescue organizations were all on hand as ground was broken Wednesday for the new animal control facility and special operations center. Peacock Partnership is spearheading construction of the project approved by voters in a 2013 SPLOST referendum. It was a particularly special day for County Commissioner Scotty Hancock, who is a former animal control director. He said the new building is good for animal control staff as well as our four-legged friends. “It is also a great opportunity for our SWAT team, Major Tom Ewing and those guys,” he said. “They have been moved around all over the county and now they are going to finally have a home where they can keep their equipment and do their training.” The facility will be located 99 North Ave. Expanded story

From Bartow County Schools: Parents who wish to enroll their children in the state funded lottery pre-k program in Bartow County Schools for the 2016-2017 school year will soon have the opportunity to register their children for the lottery drawing system. Parents may pick up and return registration forms to the home elementary school that their child will attend as a kindergarten student. Forms may be picked up and returned during the week of February 22 through February 26. A copy of the birth certificate, current shot record on form 3231, proof of Bartow County residency (utility bill, rental agreement, mortgage statement, etc.) and a minimum of 2 documents are required, and your child’s social security card must be included with all registration forms. Additionally, the Bartow County School System recommends attaching the eye, ear, dental and nutrition certificate on form 3300 which can be obtained from the Bartow County Health Department or your local pediatrician, and also proof of any government assistance. The lottery drawing will occur on Friday, March 18, at 9:30 a.m. at the Bartow County College and Career Academy and is open to the public. Parents will receive a notification letter of their child’s placement in a class. Letters will be mailed to families no later than April 22.
