Obituaries: Remembering Mr. J. C. Grizzles, Lizzette (Lizz) McCray

Lizzette (Lizz) McCray, August 1946- January 2016: On the evening of January 2, 2016; Lizzette passed away peacefully at Rosewalk Rehabilitation Center in Indianapolis, Ind., due to natural causes after being under hospice care and surrounded by family. Lizzette passed at the age of 69.

Lizz was born in the town of Rome in Floyd County, Ga., and was the only child of the late Lizzie Mae Freeman and Earnest Carson Jr. Lizz attended Rome Colored/Main High School in Rome while attending Stilesboro Church in Stilesboro,Ga

On Oct. 18, 1991, Lizzette received her certificate for General Education Development in Cincinnati, Ohio; she later pursued a career in microfilming for Kodak. In the early 90s, Lizzette decided to change her career and pursue it in the medical field as a CNA for Elite Nursing facility in Cincinnati, Ohio, where she attended New Jerusalem Baptist Church. Later she relocated back to Rome, where she retired.

In 2005 Lizzette attended Thankful Baptist Church while assisting in the community kitchen. In 2013, Lizz moved to Kentucky where her health declined slowly. In May 2015, she moved to Indianapolis, Ind., where she made peace with the Lord. Survivors include three daughters, Lorrayne Yvette Watts Rome,Georgia; Sonia Renee’ Jackson (Gary) Rome, Georgia; and Seleste Me’schelle Fielder (Barry) Indianapolis, Ind; nine grandchildren; one special Grandson Bronson Gooch Radcliff, Kentucky, and 16 great grandchildren.

Memorial Service will be Saturday, January 16, 2016 at 2:00 pm at F. K. Jones Funeral Home in Peek Chapel.

Mr. J. C. Grizzles, age 51 of 9 Sproull Street, Rome, GA passed on Tuesday, January 5, 2016. His service will be held on Thursday, January 7, 2016 at Subligna Baptist Church (35 Subligna Baptist Church Rd.). Visitation will start at Noon. Interment will follow at Subligna Cemetery on E. Armuchee Rd. F.K. Jones Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
