A low-calorie side at Chick-fil-A? Kale, yeah!

A low-calorie side at Chick-fil-A? Kale, yeah!

As Chick-fil-A prepares to part ways with its cole slaw, a new entry is coming to the fast-food restaurant’s menu on Jan. 18. Called “The Superfood Side,” look for the mix of “hand-chopped kale and Broccolini, tossed in a sweet and tangy maple vinaigrette dressing and topped with flavorful dried sour cherries. It is served with a blend of roasted nuts (walnuts, almonds and pecans) that enhances the flavor and provides added crunch.”

It comes in two sizes, five or eight ounces, with prices starting at $2.59 for the smaller size and $3.79 for the larger portion. You can substitute it for those waffle fries for an extra 94 cents when ordering a combo meal.

Even better: Chick-fil-A has a suggested meal: Pair it with an eight-count of grilled chicken nuggets and a zero-calorie beverage such as some of the soft drinks or black coffee and you’ll consume all of 280 calories. The smaller Superfood portion has 140 calories and the larger edition, 170 calories. Even better, if you received one of the Chick-fil-A Calendars for Christmas and have activated your card, the first freebie of the year is the eight-count grilled nuggets.

The gourmet side was developed in collaboration with James Beard Award Nominee and Atlanta-based chef, Ford Fry of Ford Fry Restaurants.

It is the latest healthy choice from the nation’s no. 1 fast food chicken chain. Recent years have seen the arrival of several new salads, wraps and bagels. You can check the calorie count of each of your Chick favorites here. (based in part of a media release).
