Lane shift coming to Ga. 20 from Walmart to I-75 in Cartersville on Thursday
Media release: The Georgia Department of Transportation is advising motorists in Bartow County of a traffic shift on Ga. 20 between I-75 and Walmart in the city of Cartersville, scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 7. Traffic on both east and westbound lanes from I-75 to Walmart will be shifted onto the northbound lanes. The newly constructed lanes on the new location portion of the project between Walmart and Peeples Valley Road will be open to traffic. This shift is weather permitting and subject to change.
“We certainly hope that all motorists watch out for this traffic shift and be extra cautious, while approaching this work zone,” said DeWayne Comer, district engineer at the DOT office in Cartersville. “This project may be causing the public some inconvenience, but upon completion, it will improve the flow of traffic in the area, make it safer, and help the public get where they need to go in Bartow County.”
Construction on this stretch of Ga. 20 is part of a 2.15-mile project of widening and reconstruction on 20, beginning at US 411/Ga. 61 and extending to I-75 in Bartow County. This project has been under construction since November 2013 and is expected to be completed by the end of May at a construction cost of $15,733,304.
