Mrs. Amy Louise Reese Stanfield Raines, age 48, of Rome, went to be with her Lord on Monday, January 4, 2016, at a local hospital.
Amy was born in Rome, Georgia on February 10, 1967, daughter of Eleanor Lindsey Reese and the late Willie Reese. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Robbie Stanfield. Amy was a member of the Chapel Hill United Methodist Church. She worked for a number of years for the Floyd County Schools as a Paraprofessional and at the time of her death she worked as a secretary for Anna K. Davie Elementary School.
Survivors include her loving and devoted husband, Scott Raines, to whom she was married on September 29, 2007; four sons, Reese Stanfield, Rome, Evan Stanfield, Ft. Riley, KS, Charlie Stanfield, Rome, and Scottie Raines, Newport, TN; her mother, Eleanor Reese, Rome; a sister, Susan Reese Scavone and her husband, Tony, Addison, IL; Scott’s parents, Leatha and Terry Townsend; nieces and nephews, Chris Young, Stephanie Young, Tyler Raines, Hannah Raines, Graci Raines, and Shanah Daniel; numerous loving friends.
A celebration of Amy’s life will be held on Friday, January 8, 2016, at 4pm in the Chapel at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, with Minister Chuck Graves and Dr. Phil Wood officiating. Interment will follow in East View Cemetery with Rev. Ken Kulp officiating.
The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, on Thursday from 5 until 8pm and on Friday from 2 until 3:45pm. At other hours, they will be at the residence.
Pallbearers are asked to assemble at 3:30 pm Friday and include: Zach Grady, Tony Raines, Zach Mazur, Matthew Grubb, Will West, and Zach McIntyre.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the ASPCA at www.aspca.org.
The family would like to thank everyone that has supported and prayed for them throughout Amy’s illness.
Mr. James J. Ford, age 102, Rome, transition on January 4, 2016. Funeral arrangements will be announced at a later date by Wright Memorial Mortuary Inc.
Mrs. Maude Nelson Cooper, age 89 of Rome, Georgia passed away Monday evening January 4, 2016 at Floyd Medical Center.
Mrs. Cooper was born in Gordon County, Georgia to Dave and Damie Nelson on December 20, 1926. She lived with her parents in Calhoun during her childhood and graduated from Calhoun High School in 1944. She went to work at Brighton Mills in Shannon where she met her future husband, Jewell Henry Cooper. They were married in 1946 and lived in the Rome area their entire life. She was an associate at Kmart in Rome for many years prior to her retirement. They enjoyed traveling and visited many places in the United States. Mrs. Cooper was a talented seamstress and enjoyed crocheting.
In her retirement years, Mrs. Cooper served as a volunteer at Glenwood Primary School, where she entertained the children with her toy Poodle “Princess,” which she would dress in various costumes she made for each holiday. Though she had no children of her own, she loved being surrounded by them and loving on them.
Mrs. Cooper was a member of West Rome Baptist Church and prior to her declining health, was active in Ladies Senior Adult Bible Study Class.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jewell Cooper, parents Dave and Damie Nelson of Calhoun and brothers D. R. Nelson and Joe Nelson.
She is survived by a sister-in-law, Ruby Lumsden Cornett, Rome; a cousin, James McDonald of Harrison, Tennessee; two nephews Charles Lumsden of Greensboro, GA and Eddie Lumsden of Rome; a niece, Lynn Singleton, of Rome, and several special nieces and nephews. Mrs. Maude shared a sweet friendship with Pam Corn, formerly of Rome, who invited her to get involved in her classroom at Glenwood and also checked on her frequently while they both lived in Garden Lakes.
The family will receive friends from 3:00 pm – 4:00 pm on Thursday, January 7 at Miller and Richards Oaknoll Chapel Funeral Home, 2542 Shorter Avenue in Rome, with a service to follow at 4 pm in the Chapel with Revered Ken Oates officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you make a donation to Glenwood Primary School, 75 Glenwood School Road, Rome GA 30165.
Gene Albert Tant Sr. 77, of Kingston, passed away Sunday January 3, 2016 at his residence.
Mr. Tant was born July 2, 1938, in Polk County, a son of the late Homer Tant, and Annie Mae Bonds. He was of the Baptist Faith and a retired carpenter. Mr. Tant was preceded death by sons, Albert Tant, Jr. Kenneth Tant, and Bobby Joe Tant, brothers, Joe and William Tant, sisters, Martha Nichols, and Ruby Mask.
Survivors inlcude, sons, Dennis ( Elizabeth) Tant, Kingston; Danny Tant, Kingston; Derrick Tant, Columbus; daughters, Fay Tant, Aragon; Ann (Steve Ray) Griffin, Cartersville; Tesha Tant, Aragon; 12 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday January 6, 2016 at Parnick Jennings, Sr.’s Good Shepherd Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. Allen Fuller, officiating. Interment will follow in Hills Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 p.m. Tuesday January 5, 2016 at Parnick Jennings, Sr.’s Good Shepherd Funeral Home, 2750 Shorter Ave. Rome, Ga. 30165.
Pallbearers include the following gentlemen and are asked to meet at the funeral home by 12:30 p.m. Dennis Tant, Danny Tant, Darrell Green, Jimmy Hurst, Wesley Dover, Ricky, and Franklin Akins.
Marvin Marcel Culpepper was born on July 27, 1927, and died on January 2, 2016. Daniel’s Funeral Home.
