Buzz: J.R. Cricket’s opening Thursday? Neslin named interim administrator at St. Mary’s Church. Garmon joins Dr. Miniyar’s Pediatrics.
Look for J.R. Crickets to open this Thursday, Jan. 7, eight months after word spread about the plan to move into Magretta Hall at 201 Broad St. (first story). Paul Juliano founded J.R. Crickets in 1982 at Spring Street in Atlanta and continues to run the company known for its “chicken is chicken but the wing is the thing” mantra. Drew Montgomery is behind the Rome location and is leasing the spot from Larry Martin’s team (which occupies some of the space above the restaurant). Click here to sample the J.R. Crickets’ menu. We’ll have additional details (hours, etc.) later today.
Deacon Stuart Neslin has been appointed interim administrator of Saint Mary’s Catholic Church in Rome: In announcements made at all masses this past Saturday and Sunday, Bishop David Talley told the congregation of Saint Mary’s Catholic Church at 911 Broad St. that Deacon Stuart Neslin has been named interim administrator. The appointment comes as the recent pastor, Father Patrick Kingery, begins a six-month sabbatical. Kingery will receive a new appointment when he returns. A new pastor at Saint Mary’s, home to more than 1,700 families, will be in place by July 1. Father Ed Danneker, also a former St. Mary’s pastor, will preside over weekend Masses in the interim, assisted by guest priests and the parish’s deacons.
