Obituaries: Remembering LaVonne Carver Elrod

Mrs. LaVonne Carver Elrod, age 85, of Rome, Ga., went home to be with her Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ, on Thursday, December 31, 2015. Mrs. Elrod was born in Lindale, Georgia July 3, 1930. She was the daughter of the late Tommy Lee Carver and Clara Dowdy Carver. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Tommy Lee Carver, Jr., an infant son, Bradley Harold Elrod, and her aunt Lois Dowdy Norris. Mrs. Elrod was retired from Sun Trust Bank in Atlanta, Ga. She was an active member of her church, and worked diligently beside her husband at the Chapel at Swann Lake in Rome. She was a loving wife, Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother. She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Rev. Harold Elrod, of Rome, a daughter Angela (Angie) Christine Matheson, spouse Jim of Woodstock and a son Michael Harold Elrod, spouse Shelia of Stockbridge, GA. She is also survived by grandchildren; Kristen Matheson Little, spouse Jason, Christopher James Matheson, spouse Jessie, Timothy Michael Elrod, spouse Malorie, and Zachery Alexander Elrod. She has 7 great grandchildren; Ava Brooklyn Little, Finley Christian Little, Ruby Mae Little, Jack Hatcher Elrod, Cole Timothy Elrod, Lorelai Noel Elrod, and Wylder James Matheson. She is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Sunday January 3, 2016 from 1:30 to 3:00 pm at Daniel’s Funeral Home with a service to follow at 3 pm in the Thomas B. Griffin Chapel of Daniel’s with Dr. Rev. David Howard officiating. Interment will follow at Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.
