Over a hundred Christmas trees arrived at Home Depot Saturday for the 2016 edition of ‘Bring One for the Chipper’. The first 100 donors received Dogwood tree seedlings or vegetable seed packages.

Mary Hardin Thornton of Keep Rome-Floyd Beautiful says a total of 111 trees were collected that will be sunk into lakes for fish habitats or mulched.

Last year, more than 130 trees were recycled.

This marks the 25th year of the program and the results are impressive. Some statistics to consider:

  • 98,876 trees were recycled in 2015.
  • Of those, 91.147 were mulched, 5,908 were sunk into lakes for fish habitats and 1,821 were used for fuel or other sources.
