ROME/FLOYD COUNTY
Beginning in 2016 the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office will offer a Women’s Firearm Safety Course (WFSC). The course format will include three, 2-hour lectures and one, 3-hour range date. The course will provide women with instruction on nomenclature, retention, operation and legal requirements. The WFSC is limited to 8-10 students per course. We will offer courses based on interest and availability.Signing up for the course is easy, simply click Women’s Firearm Course Application – Waiver, download and print the application, then bring the completed application to the Administrative Offices of the Jail located at 2526 New Calhoun Highway. There is no charge for the class; however, you will be required to furnish you own handgun (see the requirements listed on the application) and 50 rounds of ammunition for your weapon. Questions concerning the Women’s Firearm Safety Course should be directed to the Training & Professional Development Division.
The Rome Community Development Committee meeting scheduled for Wednesday, January 6th has been cancelled. The next meeting is scheduled for Feb. 3 at 9 a.m.
The Cartersville-Bartow County Chamber of Commerce’s quarterly luncheon will be held Feb. 1 at the Clarence Brown Conference Center. The event begins with networking at 11:15 p.m., lunch at 11:30 and program at 12 p.m. Guest speaker is Dr. Donald Green, president of Georgia Highlands College. 2016 Business License Renewals are due by Dec. 31. Payments made after that date shall be subject to a penalty. Make checks payable to Gordon County in the amount of $75. CEDARTOWN
A reminder for City of Cedartown residents with garbage service: Because of the holiday, Waste Management will pick up trash on SATURDAY (Jan. 2). Please make sure your garbage cans are rolled to the curbside FRIDAY NIGHT (Jan. 1). The regular trash pick-up schedule will resume the week of Jan. 4. City services (non-emergency) will be closed on December 31 and January 1. We will reopen on Monday, January 4 at 8:30 a.m. The City’s transit van holiday schedule: The transit van will not run on December 31 and January 1.
