Action Ministries Rome growing with search underway for new Executive Director

Action Ministries Rome has grown rapidly for the past several years in providing food and meals to low-income families.
According to current Executive Director Gary Chagnon, “Our food distributions have grown 10 to 15 percent, and our local ministries are expanding in Floyd County through the community garden, Smart Lunch, Smart Kid, Backpack Buddies and education programs.
“Growth is a positive thing, and we will be adding a new executive director in the coming weeks as I move into the role of operations manager. This alignment will enable Action Ministries Rome and its volunteers to more effectively serve those in need in Rome.”
Chagnon says he will be able to focus on on the operations of running the warehouse, organization and ordering food for distribution. All these responsibilities currently fall to the Executive Director position and leave little time for fundraising and engaging the community in the organization’s efforts.
“This reorganization gives us more flexibility and more hours with paid staff. While Volunteers are the lifeblood of any charitable organization, there is only so much they can do. Action Ministries Rome is blessed to have faithful volunteers who give back to our local community. They are invaluable to our ministry, and we could not function without them.,” he says. “This reorganization will help us utilize everyone’s time better.”
Chagnon says the job listing for a new Executive Director has been posted and hope a new person is hired in the next few weeks.
In addition to reorganization, Action Ministries Rome is also preparing for their annual community garden.
“It’s time to plan, prepare and plant the garden, which will now be known as the Bagwell Community Garden, located at the Bagwell pantry. This garden is a true community garden, open to all local low-income families who want to garden or learn how to garden,” he says.
More details will be released soon on how families can get involved with the project.
