Scattered thunderstorms will be possible later today into tonight. A few storms could be strong with the main hazards being gusty winds, frequent lightning and heavy rain.

OUTLOOK

In context: Not a good time for a storm threat in Northwest Georgia. Among other activities this weekend, both Darlington and Rome High have outdoor graduations set for Saturday morning. Both have indoor plans just in case.

What to expect:

Today and Tonight: Scattered thunderstorms will be possible later today into tonight. A few storms could be strong with the main hazards being gusty winds, frequent lightning and heavy rain.

Wednesday through Monday: Scattered to occasional thunderstorms can be expected across the area into next Monday. On any given day, a few storms could be strong with the main hazards being gusty winds, frequent lightning and heavy rain. The greatest chances for thunderstorms will occur during the afternoon and evening hours. Over time, flooding concerns will increase as continued rainfall adds up. Rainfall of 2.5 to 4.5 inches will be possible from Tuesday into next Monday with locally higher amounts possible. The greatest amounts are expected over the eastern two-thirds of the forecast area.

Today: A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 2pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 84. Calm wind becoming east around 5 mph in the afternoon.

Tonight: A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 65. East wind around 5 mph.

Wednesday: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm. High near 82. Calm wind becoming east around 5 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Wednesday Night: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm, mainly before 2am, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2am. Low around 66. East wind around 5 mph becoming calm. Chance of precipitation is 80%.

Thursday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms before 8am, then occasional showers and possibly a thunderstorm between 8am and 2pm, then occasional showers and thunderstorms after 2pm. High near 81. Calm wind becoming east around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%.

Thursday Night: Occasional showers and thunderstorms before 8pm, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 8pm. Low around 65. Chance of precipitation is 80%.

Friday: Occasional showers and thunderstorms. High near 81. Chance of precipitation is 80%.

Friday Night: A 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Cloudy, with a low around 65.

Saturday: Showers and thunderstorms likely. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 83. Chance of precipitation is 60%.
