Buzz: Heritage First Bank, RACA present ‘A Brush With Nature.’ Finster Fest returns May 26-27. Barrett joins Floyd Primary Care.

 

Rome Area Council for the Arts and Heritage First Bank present “A Brush With Nature,” an exhibit featuring the works of local artist Kathleen Hight Smithson. The exhibit continues now through June 1, Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. at the main office of Heritage First Bank, 501 Broad St. There will be a meet and greet with the artist on Friday, May 11, from 2-4 p.m. Smithson is a native of Rome and the daughter of the late Gordon Lee Hight Jr. and Kathleen Stewart Hight, pioneer business owners in Rome and Floyd County. Smithson lives in Rome with her husband Jimmy; they have two children, three grandchildren and a host of animal friends.

Howard Finster’s Paradise Garden hosts its annual Finster Fest on Memorial Day weekend, May 26 and 27: Finster Fest will feature more than 50 artists, live music, barbecue and other southern fare, a children’s art activity area, and the chance to tour Howard Finster’s famous folk art environment. Hours are 11 a.m.-5 p.m. both days.  Admission is $5, with free parking at the Walmart on U.S. 27 just north of the garden, with complimentary shuttle provided. Handicap parking is available on site.Proceeds from Finster Fest benefit the nonprofit Paradise Garden Foundation, which operates and continues restoration of Howard Finster’s  two-acre plus attraction. Nurse Practitioner Patricia Annette Barrett Joins Floyd Primary Care

Patricia Annette Barrett, APRN, FNP-BC, has joined Floyd Primary Care as a nurse practitioner. She will be seeing patients with Michael Gonsalves, M.D., at 4159 Martha Berry Highway in Armuchee.  Nurse practitioners prescribe medications and other treatments under the direction of a physician. They also obtain medical histories, perform physical examinations and order and perform diagnostic studies. Barrett earned a Master of Science degree in nursing from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from the State University of West Georgia at Dalton. She has also completed the Wound, Ostomy and Continence program at Emory University.  Before coming to Floyd, Barrett worked as a Family Nurse Practitioner at North Georgia Healthcare Center in Ringgold and at LaFayette Family Center in LaFayette. Floyd Primary Care, Armuchee is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. For more information, call 706.232.8477.
