MEET THE JUDICIAL CANDIDATES

Thursday: Floyd County Republican Party meet at Moe’s Original Barbecue for a meeting at 5:30 p.m. to be followed at 6 p.m. by updates from the superior court judge candidates, Emily Matson and Kay Ann Wetherington. Details

VOTER REGISTRATION, EARLY VOTING

From Floyd County elections chief Dr. Willie Green III: Today is the last day to register to vte at the elections office at 12 E. Fourth Ave. in downtown Rome. Hours: 8 a.m.-5 p.m. For more on the election, contact Green’s office at 706-291-5167.

  • Early voting in Rome/Floyd County: The Floyd County elections office will offer Saturday and Sunday voting on May 12 and 13, from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m., at the elections office at 12 E. Fourth Ave. off First Street in downtown Rome, says elections chief Dr. Willie Green III. Advance voting begins there and at Garden Lakes Baptist Church, 2200 Redmond Circle NW, at 8 a.m. Monday, April 30, and continues weekdays through Friday, May 18. The Rome Civic Center also opens to advance voters on Monday, May 14, through Friday, May 18, from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. The precincts will be open Tuesday, May 22, from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m.
  • Green expects a decent turnout — 30 to 40 percent — on a ballot that has only one real local race — the superior court judgeship — but much more atop the ballot (governor, lieutenant governor, etc.)

From Bartow County Voter Registration: “The deadline to register to vote in the May 22 Primary is today. New Bartow County voters should submit their application to us via the Online Voter Registration system by 11:59 p.m. or come by our office before 5 this evening. Current Bartow voters are encouraged to verify their address and other information at Georgia’s My Voter Page to make sure it’s up to day before the election. Please call 770-387-5098 with any questions about the process.”

From Gordon County:  Today “is the last day to register to vote and to change your name or address for the General Primary Election. To register to vote go to http://www.registertovote.sos.ga.gov.”

  • Early voting in Gordon County: Monday, April 30, through Friday, May 18, at the Gordon County Board of Elections and Voter Registration Office. Monday-Friday 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m., and Saturday, Saturday, May 12, from 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
