Mrs. Annette Toles Beck, age 63, of Lindale, passed away on Friday, April 13, 2018, at a local hospital.

Mrs. Beck was born in Floyd County, Georgia on September 15, 1954, daughter of the late Arthur Hoyt Toles and the late Leona Elizabeth Goolsby Toles.  She was also preceded in death by a nephew, Dustin Roberson.  Mrs. Beck was of the Baptist faith and worked for several years with her husband as co-owner of Eddie L. Beck, Inc.  She loved working in her flowers and going to yard sales and estate sales.  The greatest joy in her life was spending time and loving on her family and friends.

Survivors include her husband, Eddie Lee Beck, to whom she was married on November 16, 1974; a sister, Brenda Roberson and her husband, Donny, Silver Creek; several nieces & nephews; many special friends.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 16, 2018, at 11am in the Chapel at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, with the Rev. Jerry Brooks officiating.  Interment will follow in Floyd Memory Gardens.

The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, on Sunday from 4 until 6pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Shriner’s Hospitals for Children or the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta or a charity of choice.

Mr. Robert Dennis Beard, age 67, of Rome passed away on Friday April 13, 2018 at his residence.

Mr. Beard was born on June 13, 1950 to the late Robert Allen Beard and Barbara Imogene Brock Beard. Mr. Beard loved to fish and hunt and being outdoors. He was a member and retired welder of the Atlanta Plumbers and Steamfitters Local Union #72. Mr. Beard was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters: Cindy Beard and Bobbie Janis Beard, and one grandchild Jaden Beard.

Survivors include his wife: Wanda “Elaine” Beard; two sons: Kevin (Jennifer) Beard and Jeremy (Candice) Beard; three grandchildren: Austin, Jaclyn, and Camryn Beard; and one sister: Shelia (Jimmy) Clonch.

Graveside and Interment services will be held at 2 P.M. on Tuesday April 17, 2018 at Oaknoll Memorial Gardens with Rev. Keith Crowe. The family will receive friends from 6 P.M. until 8 P.M. on Sunday April 15, 2018 at Good Shepherd Funeral Home, 2750 Shorter Ave. Rome Ga. 30165

Ms. Juanita G. Covington, age 66, of Rome. Georgia passed away Friday, April 13, 2018, at a local hospital surrounded by her loving family and friends.

Mrs. Ezzie Augusta Formby Holdbrooks, age 98, of Rome passed away Thursday April 12, 2018 at her residence.

Mrs. Holdbrooks was born on April 1, 1920 to the late Flora Elizabeth Formby Fuller and David Gus Fuller in Crossville, Alabama. She married A.G. “Bud” Holdbrooks and moved to Rome in 1941. She worked at Rome Provision Co. for 26 years. She worked for Atlanta Baptist Assembly in Dunwoody, Ga. for 6 years as a Dietician. She was also a local artist in the Rome area, winning many awards and having her beautiful ceramic works sold in local shops and Arts and Craft shows. She volunteered at the local nursing homes for a number of years. She also was an avid bowler into her 90’s, where she was she a member of the Rome Bowling Association, the Sunrisers League, and the senior groups, where she won many awards. Mrs. Holdbrooks was a devoted Christian and loved people, she had a special saying “God loves you and I love you”. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, and she was the oldest member of South Broad United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 52 years, A.G. “Bud” Holdbrooks, four brothers: H.C. “Buddy” Fuller, Ted Fuller, D.G. Fuller Jr., Sammy Fuller, two sisters: Betty Tyler, Janie Head. Survivors include children: Jimmy B. Holdbrooks, and Patsy (Doug) Tumlin; grandchildren: Chuck Tumlin, Darrin Holdbrooks, Lynn Tumlin Mitchell, Joy Holdbrooks Griffin and Joey Tumlin; great grandchildren: Emily, Travis, and Tucker Tumlin; Jacob, Jordan, and JuliAnna Mitchell, Jay Tumlin, Jessica, Kelly, and Eric Holdbrooks, Lamar and Brian Griffin; 8 great great grandchildren; sister Cordie Taylor of Geraldine, Al.; several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 4:00 P.M. on Sunday April 15, 2018 at Good Shepherd Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Norv Havens officiating. Interment will follow in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 2:00 P.M. until 4:00 P.M. on Sunday April 15, 2018 at Good Shepherd Funeral Home, 2750 Shorter Ave. Rome, Ga. 30165.

Mrs. Mary Nell Joyner, age 69, of Sugar Valley, passed away on Friday, April 13, 2018 in Gordon Hospital following an extended illness.

Mrs. Joyner was born in Walker County on February 18, 1949, daughter of the late James Cordell Nixon and the late Hazel Louise Smith Nixon.  She was a homemaker and was a member of the Welcome Gap Baptist Church.  In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by a son Timothy Nixon.

Survivors include husband Wally Keith Joyner; 3 daughters, Natasha Blakely (Dale), Ringgold, Kerri McEver, Calhoun, and Angela Southerland (Gene), Cartersville; 1 son, Wally Keith Joyner, II, (Regina), Chatsworth; 5 brothers, Richard Nixon (Layna), Columbus, Mike Nixon (Linda), Calhoun, Larry Nixon (Rose), Summerville, Anthony Nixon (Tina) Rockmart, and Phillip Nixon (Debbie) Gaylesville, AL; 1 sister, Rita Brock (Larry), Summerville; 4 grandchildren, several nieces and nephews also survive.

In keeping with her wishes, Mrs. Joyner was cremated.

Ms. Stephanie Marshall, age 65, of Rome, Georgia passed away Friday, April 13, 2018.

Mr. Artie Eugene Ray, age 83, of Rome passed Saturday April 14, 2018 at a local hospital.

Mr. Ray was born on September 25, 1934 to the late Frank Ray and Alice Canada Ray. He was in the marines where he was a Korean War Veteran from 1952-1954. Mr. Ray also retired from Apache mills in 2000. He was a member of Floyd Springs Masonic Lodge. He was a member of the Floyd Springs Baptist Church. Mr. Ray is preceded in death by four brothers: James Ray, Tom Ray, Sidney Ray, Donald “Guy” Ray.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years: Margaret Gilliland Ray; three daughters: Alice (Tommy) Qualls, Sue (Larry) Hight, and Debra (Mike) Taylor; five grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M. on Monday April 16, 2018 at Good Shepherd Funeral Home with Rev. Dan Hyde, and Anthony Trawick officiating. Interment will follow in Morning View Cemetery. The family will receive from 12 noon until the service hour on Monday April 16, 2018 at Good Shepherd Funeral Home, 2750 Shorter Ave. Rome Ga. 30165.

Louise Shirley Stock Stein, 94, of 3126 Cedartown Hwy, formerly of 500 East 11th Street, Rome, GA, passed away early Tuesday morning, April 10th at Floyd Medical Center following an acute illness.

Mrs. Stein was born in Rome, GA, November 11, 1923, daughter of Casper Isadore Stock and Sara Esserman Stock. She attended the University of Georgia, was a member of Delta Phi Epsilon Sorority and received her degree in Journalism. She lived in NYC with a dear friend before marrying and moving to Chicago while her husband, Dr. Murray Stein, attended Northwestern University Dental School. Growing up and working in her father’s store on Broad Street, The Boston Store, she took her retail experience and landed a job at the Chicago Merchandise Mart. It was in Chicago that she began learning about and developing her natural talents for cooking and entertaining. Her love of retail, reading and writing, as well as her love of dancing, stayed with her throughout her life. She fondly recalled her days of dancing during high school basketball games, recitals at the Rome City Auditorium, and especially her days at UGA where she and one of her favorite dance partners won the Freshman Jitterbug Dance Contest.

Mrs. Stein was a lifetime member of Rodeph Sholom Congregation, Rodeph Sholom Sisterhood, and Haddasah. She enjoyed many activities and followed her interests including gardening and Garden Club membership, playing bridge, traveling, entertaining, and homemaking. But most of all , she will be remembered for her genuinely sweet nature, enduring smile and charming Southern hospitality.

Mrs. Stein was predeceased in death by her husband, Dr. Murray Stein, originally from Savannah, Georgia, to whom she was married September 5, 1948; daughter, Ann Ryna Stein Friedman, one brother, Joseph David Stock, and her parents, Casper and Sarah Stock. She is survived by two daughters, Jacquelyn Stein Greenstein, and her husband, Lorin, Peachtree Corners, GA; Shelly Stein Peller, and her husband, Jeffrey, Rome, GA; a son-in-law Freddy Freidman, and his wife Marsha, Sharpsburg, GA ; four grandchildren, Alyson Pauline Greenstein, Erin Elizabeth Greenstein, both of Alpharetta, GA, Adam Colemen Peller of Asheville, NC and Rachel Elyse Peller of Atlanta, GA; a sister, Katherine “Kitty” Stock Jacobs, Atlanta, GA and several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by Sheila Baxter, Sheral Marsh, the staff of Renaissance Marquis, The Harbor and many other caring angels who assisted her in recent years.

Funeral services were held Thursday, April 12 at 4pm at the graveside in the Hebrew Cemetery of Mt Aventine with Rabbi Judith Beiner officiating. The family will receive friends during shiva, the period of Jewish mourning, at the home of Shelly and Jeffrey Peller, 100 Saddle Mountain Road through Tuesday evening. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Rodeph Sholom Congregation, PO Box 425, Rome, GA 30162-0425 or to the charity of one’s own choosing.
