Health: What’s the buzz at Redmond Regional? Probably an air ambulance landing with possibly more on the way.

It was something akin to watching the opening of the television show “M*AS*H.” Tuesday morning, around 9:15 a.m., you first heard an approaching air ambulance helicopter and then looked up to see it swinging from West Rome across the Harbin Clinic buildings toward the grassy area in front of Redmond Regional Medical Center.

Patient dropoff or patient pickup, we never found out which. But Redmond has been using the area for such purposes with plans to add a more formal edition in coming months.

In a recent interview on Hometown Headlines Radio Edition on WRGA 98.7 FM, Redmond CEO John Quinlivan talked about the short-term goal of building a helipad on the hospital campus. The lawn area already is used for such purposes but in a much more basic way. There are a few amenities at the site to help with patient transport.

The more elaborate plan has gone before the planning commissioners and could next be reviewed by the City Commission.
