Business: Work begins on growing Aldi on Turner McCall; store remains open for now.

Work is under way on expanding Aldi supermarket on Turner McCall Boulevard in Rome as shown in a series of photos from a local contributor as well as Hometown Headlines.
Above and below: Side views of the work that’s under way, basically extending the width of the story.

The initial work on extending the Aldi at 836 Turner McCall Blvd. is under way. Fencing is up and foundation work is under way on the Steak ‘n Shake side of the discount grocer. The business remains open for now but expect a brief closing in coming weeks. In an earlier interview, ALDI Jefferson (Ga.) Division Vice President Shaun O’Keefe said the store will have approximately 18,817 square feet with five aisles and 11,404 square feet of sales floor space. Employees at our store in Rome will continue to work there until the temporary closing and then will work at other stores (closest locations include Calhoun and Cartersville). The project cost is $300,000. Aldi is open daily from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. It opened in the Village Plaza location following the demolition of the former theaters.
