The 7AA regional boys and girls basketball tournaments is at Model High School again tonight with the championship games Saturday. Admission is $7 per person. Concession: Hot dogs, popcorn and pizza.

Baseball, Softball

Because of impending rain, the Berry College softball team has moved this weekend’s doubleheader against Huntingdon College up to Friday at 2 and 4 p.m.  

Shorter Baseball moved its games at Young Harris;  single game Friday beginning at 1 p.m.

Shorter Softball will now only play on Friday, rather than all weekend. Both games on Friday will be played at Charger Park on the campus of Alabama Huntsville, with the Lady Hawks taking on No. 14 Missouri-St. Louis at 1 p.m.  before closing out the day against Ohio Dominican at 5 p.m. (Eastern time).

Football

Shorter football Zach Morrison, and his staff have put in over the last month came to a head Wednesday as the Hawks’s added 21 players on National Signing Day. All but five hail from the state of Georgia, and provide an even mix of offensive and defensive players to the returning core from 2017. Hawks

COMMUNITY

Arsenal spring recreational soccer league returns: For ages 4 to 15 for boys and girls, early registration runs through Feb. 17. The focus is participation and fun. Fundamental skills are developed and refined through games and activities.  Sportsmanship, respect and responsibility are all key components. All our recreational coaches are licensed through Georgia Soccer. Every game starts with a prayer and ends with a handshake. Practices are held once a week for one hour. Practices begin March 6th. Games are played on Fridays or Saturdays. Games begin March 16th and end May 12th (nine week, eight game season). Every child receives an award at the end of the season and there is a season-ending pizza party for players and their teams. Age groups are U6, U8, U10, U12 and U15 with separate boys and girls divisions in each age group.      Cost: YMCA members  $69; non members $109. A $10  regular registration increase applies after Feb. 17.   Cost includes jersey, end of season award and Cow Patty Bingo party as well as Georgia Soccer Association registration.  
Lil’ Gunners preschool soccer: Classes focus on introducing soccer through outrageously fun games and activities. We help develop social, emotional, and cognitive skills while providing physical exercise and developing players who are good teammates – on and off the soccer field. Classes meet at Grizzard Park on Thursday afternoons from 5-5:35 p.m. and there are a maximum of 15 participants per class. Y members $ 25; non members, $40. Session 1 – March/April – 3/153/22, 4/5 & 4/12. Session 2 – April/May – 4/194/26, 5/3 & 5/10.  Cost includes team shirt and medal.
