Media release: Two Unity Christian School students have been named semifinalists to the 2018 Governor’s Honors Program. Juniors Rosemari Hill and Maggie Whitehead will continue to the state interview portion of the selection process as they seek to secure spots in the summer program. Hill is a semifinalist in the music (vocal performance) track, while Whitehead is a semifinalist in the social studies track.

UCS was able to nominate five students for the Governor’s Honors Program this year. Four of the five nominees completed the application process, and Hill and Whitehead were chosen to proceed in the interview process.

Hill is the daughter of Travis and Stephanie Hill of Rome. She is an honor roll student and a member of the current class of High School Leadership Rome. Hill is a dancer with Rome Civic Ballet and a cast member in UCS musical theater productions.

Whitehead is the daughter of Drs. Travis and Kathrine Whitehead of Rome. She is an honor roll student and three-season athlete who participates on the varsity cross country, cheerleading, volleyball, basketball and soccer teams.

Additionally, Whitehead is a cast member in UCS musical theater and drama productions.

Out of 3,200 applicants statewide, 1,600 will advance to the semi-finalist round in a few weeks. On Feb. 24, Berry College will host the state level interviews where Hill and Whitehead will present to a panel of college professors in their respective subject.

The Georgia Governor’s Honors Program is a residential summer experience for gifted and talented rising high school juniors and seniors. The program offers instruction that is significantly different from the typical high school classroom and that is designed to provide students with academic, cultural, and social enrichment necessary to become the next generation of global critical thinkers, innovators and leaders.
